First visit

- The patient shall be visited by a
gynaecologist specialized in FIV. The process to be followed will be planned and studied.
- It is important that the woman is not in the menstrual period.
- The corresponding test in each case will be carried out.
- The consent document corresponding to the selected assisted reproduction treatment shall be signed, thus accepting the medical, biological, legal, ethical, and financial aspects.
- The medicine and the instructions for its usage shall be delivered to the patient.
- The Medical Centre will specify the ideal date to begin the treatment

Documents that you must supply in your first visit

- All the available clinical files.
- If the FIV treatment is performed with donor semen, a recent FSH, LH and Inhibine B hormone analysis
carried out on the third day of menstruation.
- The couple's blood type and RH.

Second appointment
|
Once the patient has been given a course of one daily injection during 8 to 10 days, ovulation tests are carried out (blood tests and ultrasounds) to assess follicle development.
These tests are done until egg retrieval is performed.

How is ovocytes retrieval procedure performed?
|
The patient is under general sedation, so she does not feel any pain. Ovarian punction is performed ultrasound-guided via vagina. It usually lasts about 15 minutes.
After that, the patient remains at the Postoperative Surveillance Unit approximately for an hour. It is only necessary an ambulatory admission and it is recommended to rest for 24 hours.

How is the embryo transfer performed ?
|
Two or three days after ovocytes retrieval, 2 or 3 embryos are transferred to the uterus, depending on their quality and on the patient's age. Resting at the hotel is recommended during the whole day. On the following day the patient is ready to travel.

How long does the patient stay in Barcelona ?
|
From 7 to 10 days depending on the patient's response to stimulation.
