First visit
- The patient shall be visited by a
gynaecologist specialized in FIV. The process to be followed will be planned and studied.
- It is important that the woman is not in the menstrual period.
- The corresponding test in each case will be carried out.
- The consent document corresponding to the selected assisted reproduction treatment shall be signed, thus accepting the medical, biological, legal, ethical, and financial aspects.
- The medicine and the instructions for its usage shall be delivered to the patient.
- The Medical Centre will specify the ideal date to begin the treatment

Which tests are necessary before practising an IVF with donated ovocytes ?
- An ultrasound to discard pathologies that colud reduce the technical success.
- A semen test.
- An embryo transfer catheter test.

IVF with donated ovocytes
The patient receives a treatment of hormonal substitution with estrogens and progesterone that the uterus for the embryos prepares while it waits for the donation.
The same day in which the ovocytes recover makes the IVF with sperm of the man.
Two or three days after, the ovocytes will be transfer to the patient
Second appointment
The patient keeps in continuous touch with the Centre to receive information about the donor's evolution. Since we only use fresh embryos, recipient's endometrium is synchronized with the donor's response to stimulation by a substitutory hormonal treatment.
The recipient should only do an ultrasound scan to check that the uterus is being correctly prepared to receive the embryos. This exam is realised in the patient's country.
Which treatment should the recipient follow ?
If the patient has her menstruations, a nasal spray is provided to inhibit ovarian function and to synchronize her cycle with that of the donor's cycle. Once mense comes the patient must contact with the clinic. Recipients will start with estradiol patches (Estraderm matrix 100 mgr/4 days) once the donor starts the her stimulation. After 7 to 10 days of treatment a first ultrasound scan must be done to measure the endometrium thickness.
How is the embryo transfer performed ?
Two or three days after the ovocytes retrieval, the embryo transference is performed. Due to high probabilities of pregnancy we only transfer two embryos. Nevertheless 25% of the patients have twin pregnancy.
It is advisable to keep rest after the tarnsfer of embryos ?
During that day, resting at the hotel is advisable. The following day, the patient is ready to travel.
Is it possible to freeze sperm at the first appointment?
Yes, it is recommended to leave a frozen semen sample. This way you don't have to come back until the embryo transfer day.
Are pregnancy rates high?
Yes. It is the most successful assisted reproduction technique per cycle as embryos have a high implantation rate. On the one hand because they come from ovocytes of a young woman without infertility problems and, on the other hand, since the uterus is prepared at its best due to the sustitutory hormonal treatment.
How long does the patient stay in Barcelona ?
Two or three days approximately.
Who donates ovocytes ?
In our Donation Program, most of the donors are universitary students who knew about us thanks to the information left at Universities. They undergo a complete health check up through thorough medical and analytical tests so as to avoid the risk of transmitting any disease.
Donor's characteristics, can be known ?
YES, you can know everything about the donor but his/her personal identity.
Are donors searched according to patients' physical resemblance ?
Donors are assigned according to Group and Rhesus factor and physical features, trying to match as much as possible the physical appearance of the donor and that of the recipient couple.
Egg donation, is there any waiting list ?
NO, it is almost immediate. Once the previous tests are done, you're going to receive ovocytes in a period varying from 2 to 4 weeks.
How can we know if the patient is pregnant ?
Fifteen days after the egg retrieval, an urine pregnancy test shall be done. It is very important to do this test though the patient believes mense has come. The patient should give us the results immediately, usually by email.
When is the ultrasound done ?
Fifteen days after the pregnancy test approximately. It is extremely important for us to know each patient's evolution.
